ESL Kid Stuff Lesson Plan. Lesson Plans for ESL Kids Teachers Intro Lesson (Ages 3-7)

http://www.eslkidstuff.com/lesson-plans/pdf/intro-lesson-young-kids.pdf

This resource is a lesson plan that is developed for ESL teachers. The lesson plan is structured for children who are three to seven years old. A strength of this lesson plan is that it is well organized. It tells teachers exactly what they will be teaching and what materials they will need to teach these concepts. The lesson plan asks the teacher to sing a song “The Hello Song” with the students and the song lyrics are incorporated into the lesson plan. We did not notice any weaknesses to this plan and we taught that this was a great lesson plan for ESL teachers. We would not make any modifications.

Visual Aids for ESL Teaching

Kath. 2011. ESL Teaching Tips “Visual Aids for ESL Teaching”

http://www.vesl.org/2011/10/visual-aids-esl-teaching/

This resource is an article that provides educators with some creative ways on how to make visual aids for ESL students. Using these visual aids in the classroom would be beneficial to teachers and students in any grade levels. These visual aids would be used in the classroom all of the time because they would be hanging on the wall for easy access. One of the visual aids is an option to make a poster of fruits, vegetables, and household items. The teacher can hold up a pencil and ask the students how to say it in English. The students can easily turn to the wall look at this poster with the pencil on it and say the word out loud. A strength of this article is that the author offers ideas for visual aids that can be made by the teacher alone or with the help of her students. The weakness that we noticed is that there is not a list of materials needed to make these visual aids. Therefore, the modification that we would make would be that when we decide to make this visual aid in the classroom we would first choose a visual aid to make and write a list of materials needed to make it. That way, when we are making this visual aid in the classroom with our students we will have a list with all of the necessary materials needed. This will prevent us from losing time to make the visual aid and then realizing that we do not at that particular moment have all of the necessary materials to make it inside the classroom.

Linguistic and Cultural Diversity - Building on America's Strengths

1999. Precious Children. Diversity in the Classroom. National Association for the Education of Young Children. “Linguistic and Cultural Diversity - Building on America's Strengths”

http://www.pbs.org/kcts/preciouschildren/diversity/read_linguistic.html

This resource is an article that offers educators advice on how to better understand and help students who come from a family in which English is not the child’s native language. This is a great resource for educators to use when there are ESL learners in their classroom. This resource is great for teachers who teach any grade level. ESL students in any grade level would benefit if their teacher knew how to communicate efficiently with them and their families. This is a resource that provides teachers with recommendations on how to do this. A strength of this article is that educators are offered both recommendations on how to speak with these children as well as how to speak with their families. We did not find any weaknesses to this article and we do not think that any modifications should be made.
